Cyd Charisse - Aunt Sam
80 x 118cms
oil on board
Based on a black and white studio still to promote the film "Sombrero".
Her costume was originally that of a Mexican peasent girl. She was a great musical dancer with a ballet background. Her legs were insured for millions by MGM.
I was playing about with some of Bridgit Riley's black and white stripes in the background, because the theme of upcomming exhibition was movement. Changing them to red and white gave it an Americana flavour .... the stars quickly followed.
